Come on, we all knew this was going to be obvious.
The Game Critics Awards have handed out their selections for the best of E3 2018, and to no one’s surprise, Capcom’s Resident Evil 2 remake has won the coveted “Best of Show” Award. The Game Critics Awards are chosen by “51 global media and influencer outlets” that attend E3. With the win, Resident Evil 2 also becomes the first third-party Japanese game to win in 20 years (according to Capcom PR).
Another big winner was Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II, which won “Special Commendation for Sound” and “Special Commendation for Graphics”. And if you saw the E3 trailer, it’s easy to see why. Also, Fortnite continues its dominance of the battle royale genre (though admittedly it’s become less focused on the Save the World zombie mashing mode) with its win for “Best Ongoing Game”.
Needless to say, expectations are through the roof for Capcom to deliver on RE2. But honestly, with the amount of time they’ve put into the game, it’ll be a slam dunk. We’ll find out next year for sure.
