Factories can be scary on their own, but an old, empty, actually-haunted factory is truly scary. Fear Factory is housed in the old Portland Cement Works factory in the heart of SLC. This very old industrial complex makes something besides concrete…The Portland Cement Works now makes FEAR.
As you might imagine, a former cement factory makes for an expansive home to a haunted attraction! Fear Factory is indeed massive. It includes six buildings, reaches six stories high, and has two underground passages! Unlike many haunted attractions, Fear Factory doesn’t offer several smaller mazes. This is one massive show giving you everything they’ve got with over 100 professionally trained scare actors throughout your twisted trek inside!
As with most haunts set in historical buildings, you guessed it: it is actually haunted! And Fear Factory is not shy about that! In fact, they offer ghost tours in cooperation with Grimm Ghost Tours and even hold paranormal investigations on Monday nights during the fall. Team Scary Overload can officially report that this Factory’s history is dark. Multiple deaths happened during the operation of the Cement Works many years ago, and evidence testifying to that has actually been collected during some of these investigations! That alone should make you feel all the warm fuzzies during your trip through Fear Factory! Even the actors and employees have experienced the paranormal happenings while working on-site. They know these spirits on a first name basis. Let’s just say, don’t walk through and call out to ‘George.’ Take our word for it, that is not a door you want to open.
During your trip through Fear Factory, you’ll find that the site has been dissected into different zones themed to twelve different “boogeymen” and their minions who stalk you as you pass. Think of them as the foremen of the Factory with one single task: they aim to keep the scream production numbers up! And let’s just say they are really good at their jobs.
New for this year, the Fear Factory scream team has made the Factory actually come alive! The creative team behind this attraction is one of the best in the country. You know how we know? They’ve built a giant pulsating, thumping heart integrated deep down in the heart of the Factory that really makes it feel like it has come alive! How about that detail? The entire experience down to the sounds you hear during this part of the show were carefully crafted and planned. Every angle of this production is designed to build up an increased amount of intensity within you. There’s just nothing like it, not that we’ve ever seen! Not many haunted houses can build fearscapes on this scale, and boy, does Fear Factory take advantage of what they’ve got!
Another new addition this year is a spooky sober bar called the Lurid Lounge. With Lurid you get all of the fun of cocktails without the hooch! Enjoy fun and spooky drinks and drive home safe afterwards…but not before getting a fun photo with your themed drink at one of the special themed environments available for snapshots to remember your experience. One of the fun parts of the Lurid Lounge is there is NO TICKET required to enter. That’s right! You read that correctly. Guests can swing by and enjoy a liquor-free libation any time they like while the attraction is open! Hearing the screams in the distance as you and your friends sip spookily really *adds* to the ambiance if you ask us.

These buses are all decked-out in different chilling themes and even driven by some creepy characters! We couldn’t believe Fear Factory offered a FREE Halloween-themed party bus.
