Dare to Explore The Legends Of The Fog
Between Baltimore and Philadelphia, near where the Susquehanna River empties into the Chesapeake Bay, there’s a farm. In the Fall, that farm gets covered with thick fog most nights, often so thick you can’t see far in front of you. Nobody knows why, not even the owners.
That farm and that fog are the location of Legends of the Fog, a massive collection of spine-tingling attractions sprawling across the 40-acre property.
Starting in 2007 with a cast of Humane Society volunteers, men and women’s college basketball athletes, and reform school students, Legends was a huge success from the very beginning, entertaining thousands that first year. The mysterious fog only added to the thrills.
Today’s guests can expect a full set of four attractions. Starting with a Haunted Hayride, subtitled Ride Or Die, the increase in intensity as visitors continue through them. Each attraction is self-contained, providing a unique experience.
Apart from the Hayride, there are three haunts on site. The Farewell Hotel is a cinematic, immersive experience, offering intricate sets. It’s a place you can check into but might not be able to check out of, at least, in the living sense of the term.
Cornstalkers is a corn maze full of creepy creatures hunting you in the dark. Plenty of dead ends make this a challenge to complete with the added pressure of always having some…thing nipping at your heels.
Finally, Slaughterhouse is the most intense experience, with tons of blood and guts adding to the constant threat pursuing you through the house.
You can expect to spend a full night at Legends of the Fog. Not only do you have all four attractions to keep you busy, there’s a full midway full of food trucks, a bonfire, carnival games, and various roaming creatures.
New in 2023, co-owner Patrick Barberry tells me there have been improvements throughout. However, “I don’t want to give too much away, but our signature elevator ride got a bit of a “lift” for 2023. It’s worth checking in to the Farewell Hotel to experience it for yourself,” he says.
In closing, he told me, “Legends of the Fog is more than a place to scare and be scared; It’s a place to put down your phone for a little while and have that “near-life experience” you’ve been waiting for.”
If you’re over on the East Coast, get down Maryland way and plunge into that mysterious fog this Halloween! Maybe you’ll make it out.
