Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon has promised a big surprise next year when it comes to franchise. In an interview at the Brazil Game Show with Terra Brasil, Boon cryptically hints that the series may be taking a bit of a turn, due to the events of the latest game in the series, Mortal Kombat 11.

“The story of Mortal Kombat, we’re pretty much calling [Mortal Kombat 11] the end of the story, but we’re certainly not through with Mortal Kombat. You know, there’s more characters that are going to come, and we have a big surprise coming next year for Mortal Kombat.”

Obviously, Boon doesn’t elaborate on what this surprise will be, though it’s speculated that it might involve more DLC than what has been announced so far for MK11.

Mortal Kombat 11 is out now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and the Nintendo Switch. A Google Stadia version will be released in the future.
