A new year, and sadly no indication (yet) that we’ll be seeing Half-Life 3. But, we can take solace in a long-developed mod Half-Life 2 that’s finally seeing the light of day. Gunship_Mark_II’s “MMod” has been in the works for over nine years, and has now been released. The mod reworks HL2‘s visuals, gunplay mechanics and enemy AI.

Details-wise, the mod adds new weapons, weapon animations and sounds, including the ability to aim down the sights of your pistol. It might not be such a big deal, but when you think about it, most FPS games today let you do that, so why not HL2?

The graphics have also been given a spitshine, with a few enhancements here and there (including adding glowing eyes to Combine soldiers). The Combine have also been given a few new abilities (including the ability to wield grenade launchers), and the AI is more adept at combat.

Even better is that the mod works with the base Half-Life 2 game, as well as Episode 1 and 2, as well as some other mods. You’ll have to do a bit of research to make sure other mods won’t interfere with this one, however, as well as have the free community-made Half-Life 2: Update mod installed.

Head on over to ModDB to get in on the fun.
