Cronenberg’s ‘Eastern Promises’ Getting a Follow-Up With ‘Small Dark Look’; Jason Statham in Talks to Star
Well this is an interesting one. David Cronenberg’s 2007 movie Eastern Promises, which starred Viggo Mortensen, is getting a follow-up film with the upcoming Small Dark Look.
Mortensen, it would seem, is not returning to star, and the movie isn’t exactly a sequel either. Rather, THR notes, it’s set in the same world, with Jason Statham in talks to star.
In Eastern Promises, “A Russian teenager living in London who dies during childbirth leaves clues to a midwife in her journal that could tie her child to a rape involving a violent Russian mob family.”
Martin Zandvliet (Land of Mine) is set to direct Small Dark Look, with Cronenberg nowhere in sight. Steven Knight, who wrote Eastern Promises, wrote the script for the new movie.
Presumably, the film will tell its own story about the Russian mob at the center of Eastern Promises. Plot details for Small Dark Look, however, are being kept secret for now.
