International horror films can be among the most ambitious you’ll watch, regardless of subgenre. A Record of Sweet Murder follows young reporter So-yeon (Kim Kkot-bi) and her cameraman Tashiro (Kōji Shiraishi) as they go to meet her childhood friend, who has become a serial killer with a specific purpose.

Due to his instability, the situation grows more dire and disastrous, as So-yeon doesn’t trust that the ritual Sang-joon (Yeon Je-wook) is doing is real. The premise might seem almost too chaotic, but it all comes together quite brilliantly throughout the runtime.

A Record of Sweet Murder offers plenty of violence, tense moments, chaos, and very emotionally charged scenes that might make a single tear fall from your eye. It’s not merely a found footage film featuring several kills; the focus is primarily on whether Sang-joon is simply unstable or whether the ritual to bring back someone they loved will succeed.

Overall, if you’re interested in international horror, found footage, and horror movies that leave you guessing, this is a great one to check out.
