Nicolas Winding Refn has announced his first full feature following 2016’s The Neon Demon, a mysterious new project known as Her Private Hell.
Sophie Thatcher (Yellowjackets, Companion) and Charles Melton (May December, Warfare) have been announced as starring, as well as Kristine Froseth (The First Lady) and Havana Rose Liu (Bottoms, the upcoming Lurker).
NEON announced the project earlier today, describing it only as “something groovy”, with Deadline reporting that insiders say it falls in line with Refn’s edgy thrillers like Drive and Bronson.
Now, we might be totally off base here in covering this at FANGORIA and if so I’ll eat my words in future. But let’s look at the evidence; one, Thatcher has quickly established herself as one of horror’s hottest new scream queens, with The Boogeyman and Heretic also standouts in her genre work.
Two, the title Her Private Hell certainly sounds like a genre movie. And thirdly, NEON has been killing the game recently, with Longlegs, Cuckoo, The Monkey and The Life of Chuck to name but a few of their recent offerings. NEON’s involvement certainly doesn’t guarantee a genre hit on the horizon, but it certainly helps.
Plus, Variety previously reported that the film “will have a lot of glitter and lot of sex and violence”, which is good enough for us.
Right now, all we have to go on is the below message from NEON, so watch this space while we learn more about Her Private Hell, expected to begin production this summer.
