Severance star Adam Scott will lead upcoming supernatural horror Hokum from Oddity and Caveat director Damian McCarthy, Variety has revealed today.
Set to begin shooting in Ireland later this month, Hokum will see Scott play a horror novelist who visits a remote Irish inn to spread his parents’ ashes, unaware the place is rumored to be haunted by a witch.
Peter Coonan (Bad Sisters) and David Wilmot (Bodkin) are also set to star.
Behind the scenes producing are Spooky Pictures founders Roy Lee (Barbarian) and Steven Schneider (Strange Darling), Image Nation’s Derek Dauchy (Late Night with the Devil) and Tailored Film’s Ruth Treacy, Julianne Forde and Mairtín de Barra (The Apprentice). Ben Ross (Late Night With the Devil), Dan Kagan (Longlegs), Rami Yasin (Late Night With the Devil) and Andrew Childs (Boy Kills World) will serve as executive producers.
While Scott might seem like an unexpected choice to lead a film like Hokum, the Golden Globe-nominated star actually has a long history with horror, starring in 1996’s Hellraiser: Bloodline as his second feature, as well as Little Evil, Krampus and Piranha 3D.
McCarthy’s Oddity ranked in our list of the best horrors of 2024, with the tale of a horrifying wooden mannequin delivering some of the strongest scares of the year.
Schneider of Spooky Pictures had this to say of Hokum:
With Damian McCarthy’s fresh and unique approach behind the camera and the amazing Adam Scott bringing his talent to the lead role, ‘Hokum’ is shaping up to be something truly special. It’s always a pleasure working with the team at Image Nation Abu Dhabi — they share our passion for bold, boundary-pushing storytelling. We can’t wait for audiences everywhere to experience what we’ve created together.
Needless to say, we’re very excited to hear more on Hokum. Keep your eyes peeled for news as we get it.
