Elric Kane’s The Dead Thing hits Shudder on the very appropriate date of February 14, and we’ve got an exclusive poster reveal to get you hot under the collar for the erotic horror romance.
Starring Blu Hunt (The New Mutants) and Ben Smith-Petersen (Mad Max: Fury Road), The Dead Thing was o-written by Webb Wilcoxen, and follows:
Alex (Hunt) is trapped in a downward spiral of shallow hookups and tepid connections, but she is caught off guard when her dating app swipes lead her into the arms of a mysterious, charming young man Kyle (Smith-Petersen).
Despite their passionate night, when the sun rises, the mystery man is nowhere to be found. Alex then sets out to find the one person who made her feel alive. Through her investigation, she reconnects with Kyle, but also digs up a ghastly supernatural secret. The pair quickly descend into a whirlwind of obsession, dependence, lust, and infatuation that has grave consequences.
The Dead Thing had its U.S. Premiere at Brooklyn Horror Film Festival last year after playing London’s FrightFest and Fantasia.
Kane co-hosts FANGORIA’s own Colors of the Dark podcast alongside Dr. Rebekah McKendry, who also executive produced alongside Hunt. Matt Mercer and Monte Yazzie served as producers.
Previously, speaking with People, Kane expanded on the inspiration behind The Dead Thing:
“I worked in the very office the film is set in and a co-worker was always recounting her many adventures of online dating and the various apps and strange encounters she had […] It sounded exhausting but I wrote down a note on my phone ‘Internet Dating App Horror??’ and a few months later it led to a full idea for the film.”
