Naomi Scott in SMILE 2.
Now that it’s hit streaming, physical media collectors and fans of Parker Finn’s sequel Smile 2 must be wondering when we’ll get a Blu-ray release of the film, which hit theaters earlier this year. Well, we’ve got great news: the Naomi Scott-led film is getting its own 4K Ultra HD steelbook, which hits shelves on January 21, 2025.
At the moment, we don’t know whether the steelbook will include any special features, but we do know that it comes with a newly designed gatefold cover featuring star Ray Nicholson (with his dreadful smile, of course) on the front and the phrase “it’s the last thing you’ll see” in bloody script on the back, cracking open to a big, wide smirk in the middle.
Arriving two years after the Sosie Bacon-led Smile in 2022 — based on director Finn’s short film of the same name — Smile 2 blew all expectations out of the water, with the tale of a singer tortured by the same grinning demon soaring to unexpected heights at the box office. Also starring Kyle Gallner and Lukas Gage, the film has earned $135 million globally, and is one of the top twenty-five highest grossing films at this year’s domestic box office, and in its sixth weekend still managed to bring in just over $1 million.
The psychological thriller-slash-creature feature joins a number of other success stories at this year’s box office, which also saw the likes of Terrifier 3 and Heretic climb the charts, as well as the runaway success of Longlegs, starring Nicolas Cage. We don’t know if we’ll see more of the Smile demon in a third film, but with the second film’s box office success, the door certainly seems open for it to infect someone else.
Smile 2 is available to buy or rent on streaming now, and the 4K Ultra HD steelbook is available for pre-order.
