Despite not coming close to recapturing the magic that was found in the Left 4 Dead games, Turtle Rock Studios is now rumoured to be trying it again with a sequel to Back 4 Blood. Per MP1st, information gleaned from the resume of actor and stuntman Jesse Hutch, who worked on motion capture for the first Back 4 Blood, appears to indicate that Turtle Rock is currently developing a sequel to the fun but flawed 2021 original.
Hutch, whose credits also include Dead by Daylight and Gears of War 4, has a project titled “Gobi 2” from Turtle Rock Studios. Now while this alone doesn’t indicate Back 4 Blood 2, digging deeper into SteamDB, the first Back 4 Blood was codenamed “Gobi”.
Further fueling speculation is the domain name “back4blood2.com”, which was registered back in May.
For those who love trivia, Gobi was the name of the studio’s bearded dragon mascot. Gobi was also the name of a creature that appeared in 2015’s Evolve, though in case you’re wondering, Evolve’s development codename was “Goliath”, not “Gobi”. Plus, Evolve didn’t exactly have the warmest reception (or sales), so it’s doubtful that “Gobi 2” is a sequel to that title.
Again, this is all speculation until Turtle Rock Studios or WB Games confirms the sequel. That also means that fans should keep their eyes peeled during The Game Awards 2024 next month for a potential tease by the developer.
Back 4 Blood and its three expansions are available for the Xbox Series, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
