Robert Eggers’ hotly-anticipated Nosferatu creeps ever closer to its Christmas Day release date, with Focus Features today releasing brand new character posters of the main cast – well, almost all of them.
The new posters give an eerily Gothic new look at stars Lily-Rose Depp, Nicholas Hoult, Willem Dafoe, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Emma Corrin but, notably, no Bill Skarsgård as the titular bloodsucker himself.
So far, the most we’ve seen of Skarsgård’s Count Orlok is his hulking shadow and clawed hand in the teasers, with Focus Features wisely keeping the full reveal a mystery until fans are seated in the theater.
What we do know however, is that Skarsgård went through a huge transformation to play the character (including lowering his voice with a trained opera singer), and that he’s as far from a Twilight-style sexy vamp as one can imagine. Put plainly, he stinks.
Eggers’ take on the 1922 F.W. Murnau expressionist classic horror is described as a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake.
Eggers, who wrote the script for Nosferatu, also serves as a producer along with Chris Columbus, Eleanor Columbus, Jeff Robinov, and John Graham.
Don’t miss Nosferatu in theaters on Christmas Day.
