Shaun of the Dead star Nick Frost is getting back in the horror game later this year. IFC Films and Shudder have announced that they have acquired the North American rights to Get Away, a new slasher starring Frost, among others. Directed by Steffen Haars, the film is now set to hit theaters on December 6 before arriving on Shudder for your streaming pleasure sometime in early 2025.

Get Away will hold its world premiere at Fantastic Fest 2024 in September as part of this year’s stacked lineup. The film was produced by XYZ Films with John Hegeman, Lee Kim and Frost on board as producers. Richard Kondal serves as the co-producer, with Vince Totino and Patrick Fischer on board as executive producers. So, what’s this one about, exactly? The brief synopsis reads as follows:

“In Get Away, a family’s vacation to a remote getaway takes an unexpected turn when they discover the island they’re on is inhabited by a serial killer.”

Not much else has been revealed but we do have the above image of the cast. One assumes we’ll also be getting a trailer sooner rather than later. The film, which previously went under the title Svalta, was written by Frost, in addition to his starring role. The cast also includes the likes of Aisling Bea (This Way Up), Sebastian Croft (Heartstopper) and newcomer Maisie Ayres. In a statement, Frost had this to say about it:

“I’m thrilled Get Away has found a home at IFC Films and Shudder, alongside the constant support and collaboration with Wayward Entertainment and the gang at XYZ. It’s such a good fit and a real relief knowing that Get Away is in such safe hands. I can’t wait for you to finally see it in theaters!”

“I am super hyped that Get Away found its perfect partner in IFC Films and Shudder to bring the film to North American audiences,” Haars added. “We can’t wait to invite everyone on this killer trip with the Smith family to the unwelcome island of Svälta.

Frost is certainly no stranger to the genre world. He’s known best for his collaborations with director Edgar Wright and actor Simon Pegg. Aside from Shaun of the Dead, their work includes Hot Fuzz and The World’s End. Some of Frost’s other genre-focused works include Attack the Block, Slaughterhouse Rulez, the TV series Truth Seekers and the upcoming Krazy House
