All good things must come to an end, and such is the case with the spooky cinematic adventures of Ed and Lorriane Warren. To that end, Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have announced a release date for The Conjuring 4, which is being billed as the finale to the main films in The Conjuring Universe. So, while the universe may continue, this is likely going to be the last go-around for Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson as the Warrens.
The fourth Conjuring film is now set to arrive in theaters on September 5, 2025, per The Hollywood Reporter. The studio also announced that Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride! has movies up a week to September 26, 2025. Now, circling back to the matter at hand, Michael Chaves is set to direct the latest entry in The Conjuring Universe after helming 2021’s The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. He also was in the director’s chair for The Curse of La Llorona, which has ties to this franchise but is not technically, officially part of it.
Plot details for the fourth installment remain under wraps for the time being. David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who has worked in this franchise quite a bit, penned the screenplay. While the studio has yet to confirm the title, a report from earlier this year suggested that it will be called The Conjuring: Last Rites. We’ll see if that sticks.
Modern horror master James Wan directed 2013’s The Conjuring and 2016’s The Conjuring 2, which got this whole enterprise moving. The franchise has since expanded to include spin-offs such as Annabelle and The Nun, as well as sequels to those films. To date, the franchise has pulled in more than $2 billion at the global box office, making it arguably the most successful cinematic universe not connected to Marvel.
That being the case, billing this as the final installment does feel like turning off a faucet that spews out money. With that having been said, it’s not as though WB is going to stop telling stories in this universe. They already have plans to make a Conjuring TV show for the Max streaming service. It’s also very likely that further spin-offs, such as The Nun 3, will come to fruition at some point.
