Heads up, Daryl and Carol stans as The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 2 is headed our way this fall. AMC has announced a premiere date for the spin-off show’s sophomore outing. Mark your calendars as the network is set to reunite Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier on Sunday, September 29. AMC is also set to premiere the new season at the Tribeca Festival this weekend, meaning we should be seeing early reactions online in the near future.
AMC has been bullish on the show from the start, as Daryl Dixon scored a season 2 renewal before the first season even premiered. The big hook this time around is that Melissa McBride will be returning to the world of The Walking Dead for the first time in years to reunite with Norman Reedus. The network understands this is a big deal as the official subtitle for this season is The Book of Carol. The synopsis for the new season reads as follows:
“The new season picks up where The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon left off, following fan-favorite characters Daryl Dixon (Reedus) and Carol Peletier (McBride). They both confront old demons while she fights to find her friend and he struggles with his decision to stay in France, causing tension at the Nest. Additionally, Genet (Anne Charrier)’s movement builds momentum, setting Pouvoir on a violent collision course with the Union of Hope in the fight for France’s future.”
The cast also includes Clémence Poésy, Louis Puech Scigliuzzi, Laika Blanc Francard, Charrier, Romain Levi and Eriq Ebouaney. Showrunner David Zabel, Scott M. Gimple, Reedus, McBride, Greg Nicotero, Angela Kang, Brian Bockrath, Daniel Percival, Jason Richman and Steve Squillante serve as executive producers.
“I’ve known there was much more to be told of Carol’s story as I felt her so unsettled when we last saw her, as she watched her best friend, Daryl, ride away,” McBride said when it was first announced she would be returning for the show’s second season. “Apart or (hopefully!) together, their stories run deep, and I’m so excited to continue Carol’s journey here. This team of storytellers have done amazing work to land these two established characters in an entirely new world to them, and I’m loving the discoveries!”
Meanwhile, The Walking Dead universe remains strong on AMC. Aside from this show, Rick and Michonne recently reunited in The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. We’ve also got The Walking Dead: Dead City returning for a second season, with that show focusing on Maggie and Negan. Even though the flagship series and its first spin-off Fear the Walking Dead are over, AMC seems hellbent on keeping things going for years to come.
