Black Panther and Creed director Ryan Coogler is making a mysterious horror movie about vampires (or at least it seems to be about vampires), and the cast continues to grow as production nears. To that end, Delroy Lindo, perhaps one of the most under-appreciated character actors alive, has joined the currently untitled genre film. Lindo will star alongside Michael B. Jordan, who is set to lead the project.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lindo has signed on for an undisclosed role in the film, which is believed to take place in the Jim Crow-era South. Jordan is rumored to be playing twin brothers, with vampires involved in the shenanigans somehow. Nothing has been confirmed by Warner Bros., the studio that won the rights to the project in a competitive bidding war. Also of note, Jack O’Connell (Ferrari) recently boarded the cast as a villain.
As for Lindo, he has been steadily working in Hollywood since the ‘70s, starring in a range of projects from Malcolm X to Gone in 60 Seconds and everything in between. Some of his recent credits include Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods and the acclaimed western The Harder They Fall. He is as sturdy as they come in this business and one of those guys that elevates everything he touches.
The original script was written by Coogler, who is also producing the film alongside Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian. Coogler is an A-lister who scored a huge hit with Creed before directing Black Panther, which is literally one of the biggest movies of all time. He most recently helmed Black Panther: Wakanda Forever for Marvel Studios. He then decided to reunite with Jordan for a trip to the horror genre. Given that horror is the most reliable genre going right now, it’s not hard to see why studios were lining up to secure the rights to this one.
Interestingly enough, Lindo has also long been attached to another vampire movie in the form of Marvel’s long-awaited Blade reboot. That film is set to star Mahershala Ali in the lead role, with Mia Goth on board as well. It has been stuck in development hell for several years and is currently due to hit theaters in November of next year. It took so long to get that movie made that Lindo found his way into another vampire movie. Funny how these things play out.
The currently untitled vampire movie is due to hit theaters on March 7, 2025.
