Midnight Terror Brings Fear To Chicagoland
Chi-Town is a metro area that’s infamous for a lot of things.
Everyone knows the history of organized crime back in the day, with folks like Capone leaving the joint carpeted with corpses.
It’s been known in recent decades for being, shall we say, more than a little prone to political shenanigans.
In the land of cinema, we’ve got the Candyman lingering in mirrors in Cabrini Green, both in the classic film and the recent incredible reboot.
It should come as no surprise, then, that northern Illinois is a bit of a mecca for haunted attractions. Starting down south and working up to the Wisconsin border, you’ve got a wide selection of excellent spookshows waiting for you during the Halloween season.
Sitting right up at the top of that list is Midnight Terror. Out in the suburb of Oak Lawn, Midnight Terror has become one of the most infamous haunts of all in the windy city region. Opening in 2014, this veteran-owned haunted house focuses on the core strengths: an actor-driven show with solid effects and a great story.
In 2023, owner Justin Cerniuk says they’ve added more actors than ever. “We’re also allowing our performers greater flexibility in how and where they scare, empowering them to modify and creatively enhance their characters as they see fit so that our patrons get a more memorable fright experience,” he says.
The story and lore of Midnight Terror also changes and evolves year to year. This year the malignant overlord Malum and the wraithlike Willow encounter The Founders, an insidious subculture that covertly controls the forces of evil in this dark domain from which you must escape. Malum runs the Factory of Malum while Willow holds sway over the Town Of Black Grove, the two attractions that make up Midnight Terror. What part do The Founders play in this? You’ll have to go out to Oak Lawn and pass through Midnight Terror to find out.
This isn’t all that Midnight Terror has to offer for the 2023 Halloween season. On the final nights of the season, November 3rd and 4th, giggles take control of the haunt for the Clown Takeover event. The entire attraction is invaded by clowns! Coulrophobes need not apply, this last weekend promises to be pure chaos.
If you are anywhere near northern Illinois this Halloween season, you simply MUST get into Midnight Terror to see what they have got going on this year. Old man Malum and wicked miss Willow don’t take no for an answer.
