In a move that might not surprise some, CD Projekt RED has announced that their upcoming sci-fi RPG Cyberpunk 2077 will be pushed back from its original release date of April 16. The game is now scheduled to be out on September 17.

In a message posted on Twitter and the CD Projekt RED official site, CD Projekt RED Co-Founder Marcin Iwinski & Head of Studio Adam Badowski stated that while the game is currently at a stage where it’s “complete and playable”, work still needs to be done. “We want Cyberpunk 2077 to be our crowning achievement for this generation and postponing launch will give us the precious months we need to make the game perfect.”

In a separate piece of news, according to a report by IGN, the game’s multiplayer component won’t be available until after 2021. CD Projekt RED held a press conference to discuss the delay of the game, during which Michał Nowakowski, CD Projekt’s Member of the Board and SVP of Business Development, confirmed that the other AAA title CD Projekt RED is developing in parallel to Cyberpunk 2077 is the game’s multiplayer component.

“Given the expected release of Cyberpunk 2077 in September, and speaking of a series of events we expect to occur after that date, 2021 appears unlikely as a release date for the Cyberpunk multiplayer.”

Cyberpunk 2077 is scheduled to be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, with a Google Stadia version to be released soon after.
