New ‘Baldur’s Gate III’ Gameplay Footage Highlights Changes And Updates Ahead of Launch
Larian Studios debuted over an hour of new gameplay of their upcoming Baldur’s Gate III at D&D Live 2020 yesterday afternoon. The gameplay shows off the improvements and additions made to the game based on community feedback since its previous showing at PAX East 2020 in March.
While some changes shown are minor (such as the narrator switching to a present tense/second-person narration), the gameplay also saw the addition of the inspiration system. Inspiration points allow the player to reroll one of their die, which comes in handy during moments of life and death. These points are awarded to the player for finding specific solutions during their playthrough.
Also shown were changes to the initiative system. Now characters with similar individual initiative can now be grouped together automatically, allowing players to try out combinations and align their attacks in a group initiative system. Other characters and enemies will have individual initiative.
Baldur’s Gate III is due out for PC in early access in August, as well as Google Stadia when the game fully launches.
