Directed by the great William Castle, the incredibly clever, gimmick-heavy 1960 horror film 13 Ghosts was upgraded for modern times with the creature-filled remake Thirteen Ghosts in 2001, and we’ve learned today via Deadline that the long-dormant property is now once again being brought back to life with an official 10-minute short film next year!
Sony’s Screen Gems has partnered with the Eli Roth-co-founded Crypt TV on the upcoming short, which is expected to debut in early 2020 through Crypt TV’s channels.
Deadline notes, “The aim is to create longer-form content based on the reception of the short.”
“Jack [Davis] and the team at Crypt continue to deliver dynamic content to their growing audience,” Screen Gems’ Scott Strauss told the site. “We’re excited to be working with them to revive and freshen 13 Ghosts for a new generation on a storytelling platform young horror fans have clearly embraced. They’re ideal creative partners for this moment and we expect the new 13 Ghosts to be fun, resonant, and above all, really scary.”
In the original film, which the short will be based on, a family inherits what proves to be a haunted house, but a special pair of goggles allows them to see their ghostly tormentors.
