The Japanese zombie-comedy One Cut of the Dead from director Shinichiro Ueda was a huge hit out of Fantasia last year, with Meagan raving in her review for us that the film “charms with surprising zombie comedy,” while also adding: “For those looking for laughs and commentary on the passions of low budget horror filmmaking, this is a must watch.”
Despite all the praise, the film hasn’t even been released yet here in the States (though the UK Blu-ray is Region Free), but the good news tonight is that it’s now headed to Shudder!
Reported by Variety, Shudder has acquired all rights in North America to the low-budget horror-comedy. The site notes, “The company said that it had also licensed rights to the film for Australia and New Zealand, where it plans to launch later this year.”
At this time, we don’t yet have a release date. An English-language remake is also in the works.
In the film, things go badly for a hack director and film crew shooting a low budget zombie movie in an abandoned WWII Japanese facility, when they are attacked by real zombies.
