Canadian animation studio Mercury Filmworks, (Netflix’s Annie and Emmy-winning animated series Hilda) and France’s La Chouette Compagnie (Droners) are set to develop, produce and distribute Don’t Walk Home Alone After Dark, a 2D-animated horror anthology series aimed at teenage and YA horror fans.
Variety, who reported the news earlier today, confirm that the series is based on the YouTube channel of the same name. With only six shorts uploaded so far, Don’t Walk Home Alone After Dark has racked up over 200,000 subscribers and more than 9 million views, with the short I Think My Step-Dad’s a Werewolf garnering 4.6 million of those views.
Helmed by director Andy Coyle, Variety lets us know that the series will be:
Inspired by horror traditions and conventions, the anthology series features modern folk tales that frequently touch on coming-of-age themes that will be familiar to its intended audience.
Each episode of Don’t Walk Home Alone After Dark will be a stand-alone story, but with an overarching narrative. The series is developed in a way that allows it to be listened to, podcast style, independently of the visuals.
