[Trailer] Issa López’s ‘Tigers Are Not Afraid’ Earns Rave Reviews from Stephen King and Guillermo del Toro
Earlier this year, we learned that Shudder had acquired Issa López‘s festival hit Tigers Are Not Afraid, with a limited theatrical release set for August 23rd followed by a big screen expansion and then the film’s arrival on the streaming service. Shudder’s trailer has arrived today, featuring rave reviews from Stephen King, Guillermo del Toro and Neil Gaiman.
Tigers Are Not Afraid (read our review) is a dark fairy tale about a gang of five children trying to survive the horrific violence of the cartels and the ghosts created every day by the drug war.
Shudder’s official description for the film reads, “A haunting horror fairytale set against the backdrop of Mexico’s devastating drug wars, Tigers Are Not Afraid follows a group of orphaned children armed with three magical wishes, running from the ghosts that haunt them and the cartel that murdered their parents. Filmmaker Issa López creates a world that recalls the early films of Guillermo del Toro, imbued with her own gritty urban spin on magical realism to conjure a wholly unique experience that audiences will not soon forget.”
“Tigers Are Not Afraid is a horror fable for the ages, as moving as it is frightening thanks to Issa’s fearless imagination,” Shudder GM Craig Engler recently said in a statement.
