‘The Last of Us’ Multiplayer Project Has Been Delayed, New “Single-Player Experience” Hinted by Naughty Dog
It would appear that we’ll be waiting a bit longer for the long-awaited standalone multiplayer project for The Last of Us. Naughty Dog took to Twitter to announce that the project needs a more time. At the same time, they’ve also hinted at a new “single-player experience.”
After announcing the multiplayer project back in January during The Last of Us 10th anniversary celebrations, the developer explained that as development has continued on the project, they’ve realized that it’s best for the game to be given more development time. This comes after a Bloomberg report stating that the project’s “quality and long-term viability” is under scrutiny, with many of devteam members that were working on the project having been moved on to other projects.
“We know many of you have been looking forward to hearing more about our The Last of Us multiplayer game. We’re incredibly proud of the job our studio has done thus far, but as development has continued, we’ve realized what is best for the game is to give it more time.
Our team will continue to work on the project, as well as our other games in development, including a brand new single-player experience; we look forward to sharing more soon.”
Apart from concept art shared back in January, not much has been shared regarding the multiplayer project. According to Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann at the time, the project was “shaping up to be a fresh, new experience from our studio, but one rooted in Naughty Dog’s passion for delivering incredible stories, characters, and gameplay.”
As for the single player project, if it is The Last of Us Part 3, the developer had mentioned a few years ago that the game had an outline, but nothing more.
