Once again, it sucks when licensing to video games expire. Condemned: Criminal Origins, the 2006 cult classic from Monolith (which sadly closed up shop earlier this year) and Sega, has been delisted from Steam and the Xbox Marketplace, making it no longer available for purchase. No reason has been given, but again, seeing as Monolith no longer exists, the game appears to now be headed to the void.
The ever-informative Wario64 broke the news this afternoon, showing screenshots from SteamDB that reveal Condemned has been “retired” from the service.
However, there is a way to grab the game now on Steam, but you’ll need to be quick. Fanatical is currently selling keys for Condemned: Criminal Origins at a discount, so hurry up and grab it before the keys are gone.
Of course, this could also mean that there is a remaster on the way, but again, there has been no news regarding any of Monolith’s properties getting scooped up by Warner Bros or anyone else. This also means that as a precaution, fans should look to grab F.E.A.R., another classic horror title from Monolith, on Steam and GOG before anything happens to it.
If you are by chance looking for modern title that draws inspiration from Condemned, you can also pick up David Szymanski‘s throwback grindhouse title Butcher’s Creek on Steam.
