New Images from ‘Jason Goes to Hell’ Doc ‘Hearts of Darkness’; West Coast Premiere Next Week
Fresh off its sold-out world premiere at Frightfest Glasgow and US premiere at Texas Frightmare Weekend, Hearts of Darkness: The Making of The Final Friday will have its West Coast premiere on June 13 at Gardena Cinema in Los Angeles.
The feature-length documentary will screen alongside Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday with director Adam Marcus in person.
To celebrate, Bloody Disgusting has an exclusive look at new images from Hearts of Darkness.
Exploring the story of how a 23-year-old film student got the reins of horror’s biggest franchise with the ninth installment in the Friday the 13th franchise, production on the doc began back in 2019.
Interview subjects include Marcus, actors Kane Hodder, Steven Williams, John D. LeMay, Steven Culp, Rusty Schwimmer, Richard Gant, Kipp Marcus, Andrew Bloch, Allison Smith, Julie Michaels, Michelle Clunie, Michael B. Silver, Kathryn Atwood, and Jonathan Penner, composer Harry Manfredini, and special makeup effects artists Howard Berger and Robert Kurtzman.
Michael Felsher (Just Desserts: The Making of Creepshow) directs. Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th author Peter M. Bracke serves as the writer.
“This is much more than a simple ‘making-of’ piece. What really came through when we were assembling this documentary was that it was Adam Marcus who really inspired so many of his cast & crew to sign on for a film that they might have even considered doing otherwise,” Felsher tells Blood Disgusting.
“Adam viewed Jason Goes to Hell as an exciting opportunity to debut his directing ambitions on a franchise that he truly loved and was excited to do something new with ol’ Mr. Voorhees. In the end, it was Adam Marcus’ talent, enthusiasm and passion that made his initial foray into feature filmmaking such a memorable experience for everyone, and Hearts of Darkness really is his story, filtered through the bloody escapades of our favorite horror icon”
Additional festival screenings are in the works, to be followed by a Blu-ray release.
