With Dark Machine Games and DreadXP’s first-person speed climbing game White Knuckle now out in Early Access on Steam, the teams have released the roadmap of what’s to come to to the game over the next few months and beyond. To go alongside this roadmap reveal, White Knuckle received an update that adds the much-requested feature of being able to save the game and continue at a later time.

First up this summer is a new expansion that’s set to be released “very soon” entitled The Challenge Update. As you might expect, the update is centred around challenges, and also brings some surprises to White Knuckle that are yet to be revealed.

Following The Challenge Update is a big expansion slated for a Q3 2025 release called The Abyss Update. This update adds a new region, new items, perks, enemies, and more. Beyond that update comes new regions (bringing the total number in the game to seven) and sub-regions, new modes, seasonal events and more.

In total, Dark Machine Games is planning to keep White Knuckle in Early Access for the better part of a year. “Over the course of development our goal is to slam as much content as possible inside of White Knuckle, new creatures, regions, secrets, game modes, the whole works. We really want to cram it in there.”

In White Knuckle, you are a lone climber trapped in a decaying megacomplex deep underground, you must ascend SUB-STRUCTURE 17 using precision movement, sharp reflexes, and resource management. Scale crumbling walls, vault over treacherous gaps, avoid deadly traps, and evade the compound’s malevolent denizens as an encroaching and increasingly angry ooze rises below you, motivating you to climb swiftly or face your doom.
