‘Sker Ritual’ Now Available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Coinciding With Anniversary Event

Alien vs Predator for the Atari Jaguar was the killer app for the ill-fated console. And now, Athena Worlds, who are comprised of members of the Alien vs Predator team, along with developers from Forza Horizon, Goldeneye 64, The Sims, and others, have announced a spiritual sequel currently titled Codename Xeno, which is currently in development for PC, PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series.

Details on the game are still forthcoming, but the basis of the story involves you crash landing on planet XL-243, where you quickly find that you are not alone. Codename Xeno is being touted as “being a landmark open world game of exploration, survival, high stakes tension and combat.”

“It is a very personal journey for me”, said Jane Whittaker, CEO of Athena Worlds, who was also the AI and gameplay programmer/designer for Alien vs Predator. “So many people still talk about our work on AvP to this day, with a massive following. I have been asked for over 30 years to create my next survival and stealth strategy game. I am beyond thrilled to say that thanks to generous support my day has come.”

Whittaker elaborated further on his X account about Codename Xeno, stating that the game will be an entirely new IP. “We are making a whole new monster hunting game and this is not the Alien licence or any attempt to copy it! It gives us MUCH more creative freedom to go crazy with our own creations!” The best comparison would be Team 17’s Alien Breed series, which had space marines battling aliens that looked very much like xenomorphs, but did not use the Aliens license.

Meanwhile, production for Codename Xeno is being led by Mike Meaden (producer for Star Citizen, Squadron 42 and Forza Horizon), with character design led by Blizzard scholarship award winner Blaire Wathen.
