More than a decade into its existence, the MonsterVerse only continues to expand. Legendary has a lot going on with Godzilla, Kong and the rest of the kaiju right now, with a second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters on the way on Apple TV+, possibly later this year. Not only that, but the streamer is developing some spin-off shows as well. But until the next season arrives, fans need something to focus on. That something has just revealed itself in the form of Monarch: The Lost Adventures.
Legendary Comics launched the book on Kickstarter recently in partnership with Rocketship. Monarch: The Lost Adventures is an anthology that expands on the MonsterVerse with five stories that dig deeper into the characters from the show. This includes Lee Shaw, Billy Randa, Keiko, Kentaro, Cate, and May, as well as Titans like Kong, the Brambleboar and The Ion Dragon. You can check out a trailer for the book below.
“This anthology is a love letter to fans of Monarch and the larger Monsterverse,” said Robert Napton, SVP & Publisher, Legendary Comics. “Each story reveals pivotal, untold moments that add rich new layers to the characters and mythology. We’re thrilled to team up with Rocketship to bring this experience straight to the fans who helped make MONARCH a hit.”
Godzilla is no stranger to the pages of a comic book and the MonsterVerse has had a healthy, expanded life in the comics. I personally own the Legends of the MonsterVerse omnibus, which I backed on Kickstarter several years back. From my POV, these comics have done an outstanding job expanding the universe. Also, not for nothing, Lee Shaw did start off as a character from the comics before he became the lead of Monarch the TV show. As for the specifics of the book? Here’s a breakdown of the five stories:
Keiko and the Brambleboar: Keiko navigates the dangerous realm of Axis Mundi and comes face-to-face with the monstrous Brambleboar.

USS Lawton and The Ion Dragon: Billy Randa’s encounter with the Ion Dragon reveals the resilience needed to survive in a Titan-infested world.

Lee Shaw: While in lockdown, Lee Shaw reflects on a defining moment in his past and the choices that shaped his future.

Those interested in backing the campaign can get a digital copy of the book for $15 or a standard graphic novel for $40. Various reward packages go up from there. Meanwhile, Warner Bros. and Legendary are in production on the next MonsterVerse movie, the untitled sequel to last year’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, which hits theaters in 2027. Beyond that, Toho is working on a sequel to Godzilla Minus One as well. It’s a good time to be a fan of big monster goodness, that much is certain.
You can pre-order Monarch: The Lost Adventures on Kickstarter now. For more, check out the monsters we’d like to see in the Godzilla Minus One sequel.
