Lionsgate has shared the first trailer for Hurry Up Tomorrow, the upcoming suspense thriller from Trey Edward Shults (Waves, It Comes At Night) ahead of its May 16 release date.

Starring The Weeknd, real name Abel Tesfaye, in his first feature starring role, the psychodrama is billed as an extension of his recently-released album of the same name, and also stars Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan.

In Hurry Up Tomorrow, co-written by Shults, Reza Fahim and Tesfaye following his own original idea:

“a musician plagued by insomnia gets pulled into an odyssey with a stranger (Ortega) who begins to unravel the very core of his existence,”

Previously, Shults has expanded on the story, saying:

“It’s about an artist, you could say, on the verge of a mental breakdown […] He meets this woman, and they go on this odyssey together. It’s a mix of psychological thriller and drama. I honestly feel like I’ve never seen a movie quite like it.”

Tesfaye made his acting debut in Sam Levinson’s The Idol, alongside Nosferatu star Lily-Rose Depp. He’s also previously graced the cover of FANGORIA, thanks to his work with FX artist Mike Marino.

Ortega, also a FANGORIA cover star, is of course no stranger to the genre game, with the scream queen starring in X, Scream, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Wednesday and the upcoming Death of a Unicorn.

The Weeknd, Fahim, Kevin Turen and Harrison Kreiss serve as producers while Ortega and Shults are executive producers.
