As we inch ever-closer to the highly anticipated 28 Years Later, the long-awaited follow-up to both 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later, we finally have a better idea of some of the players involved in Danny Boyle’s zombie film. Empire Magazine has released a new image of Ralph Fiennes’ Dr. Kelson, who made a brief appearance in trailer and will presumably have a major impact on the franchise.

The new image is a simple look at Kelson, an imposing-looking man covered in blood (just like everyone else seems to be), but Fiennes’ comments about Kelson’s nature are what’s most interesting. Starring in both 28 Years Later as well as Nia DaCosta’s already-shot sequel, The Bone Temple, which hits theaters next year, Fiennes told Empire that “the way he survived is very interesting”, and that he thinks “audiences will assume something about him and then see where it goes.”

He also revealed that he’ll play a “much bigger part” in The Bone Temple than in the first film. “He strides forward into the second film in an enormous way,” teased director Danny Boyle, “where the question of what he’s after and what he wants to do gets fully resolved.”

Fiennes may just be the most interesting part of the upcoming apocalypse trilogy, given that it appears original 28 Days Later star Cillian Murphy won’t be appearing in 28 Years, though it’s been hinted that he may show up later on in the trilogy. (And no, he definitely isn’t that zombie from the trailer.) The film also stars Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Alfie Williams.

28 Years Later arrives in theaters on June 20. Check out the new image of Fiennes below:
