Looks like the Scream franchise is finally back in business. Original franchise creator Kevin Williamson shared a photo on Instagram of the first slate for Scream 7, revealing that the slasher sequel is officially filming, and that they’ve just wrapped their first day of shooting.

“I’m not supposed to post about Scream,” Williamson wrote in his post, “and I hope @spyglassmediagr and @paramountpics will forgive me but when you have one of the best days of your life it’s really hard to keep it to yourself. What an extraordinary day I had working with an amazing and talented cast and crew. They brought their “A” game and had my back every step of the way. I’m so very grateful for this opportunity and to Wes Craven who was on my mind through it all. The profound impact he has had on my life and career is endless. What a day! I can’t wait for tomorrow!”

The news of the sequel’s filming comes after several key cast members have returned to the franchise, notably Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox, but also Mason Gooding, who featured in the last two “legacy sequel” films in the franchise. Scream 7 is also set to star Ghostbusters: Afterlife stars Celeste O’Connor and Mckenna Grace, as well as Anna Camp and Isabel May.

Scream 7 is the third sequel in the “rebooted” era of the franchise, following 2022’s Scream and Scream VI in 2023, the latter of which raked in a franchise-high gross at the domestic box office, earning over $108 million. The series doesn’t look like it’s headed for graveyard anytime soon, though, as the release of Scream 7 — if its recent casting controversy doesn’t dampen its box office draws — looks set to push the franchise past the $1 billion mark at the global box office.

Scream 7 hits theaters on February 27, 2026.
