One of the best parts of entering a brand new year is looking ahead and previewing another packed year for horror. And 2025’s horror slate is densely packed, its release schedule already stacked with exciting adaptations, franchise sequels, reboots, originals, and beyond. Even more exciting is that this only covers what’s already been announced; expect to get inundated with surprise announcements and film festival discoveries to further fill the calendar with horror goodies.

How massive will 2025 be for horror? If this preview of the year’s looming horror offerings is any indication, horror fans may be spoiled for choice. Of course, expect some release dates to shift and many surprises yet to get announced in the coming months. In other words, this is only the beginning of the year’s horror offerings.
Here are over 50 horror movies we’re excited to check out in 2025.
Birdeater – January 10
A bachelor party weekend transforms into an intense nightmare in Birdeater, directed by the filmmaking duo Jack Clark and Jim Weir. According to the trailer, we can expect things to get feral.
Wolf Man – January 17
Leigh Whannell’s take on a Universal Horror Monster Classic arrives hot on the heels of the Wolf Moon, the first full moon of the new year. Whannell’s Wolf Man leans heavily into the body horror of a man transforming into a monster, drawing more from body horror films like The Fly.
Grafted – January 24
If there’s one emerging 2025 horror trend already, it might be body horror. Experimentations on a revolutionary skin grafting procedure get weird and gross in Sasha Rainbow’s feature debut. Look for this one to arrive on Shudder this month.
Presence – January 24
Steven Soderbergh’s Presence delivers a new spin on the haunted house movie, framing everything from the ghost’s perspective haunting the family that’s just moved into a seemingly idyllic suburban home.
Companion – January 31
Drew Hancock’s mysterious new sci-fi horror movie is playing coy on plot details, outside of a fantastic cast led by Sophie Thatcher. Between being produced by Barbarian filmmaker Zach Cregger and an intriguing trailer, we’re in.
Dark Match – January 31
Writer and Director Lowell Dean (WolfCop) is back with new horror movie Dark Match, in which small time wrestling company accepts a well-paying but too good to be true gig in a backwoods town only to learn, too late, that the community is run by a mysterious cult leader… and their event is now a pay-per-view fight to the death.”
Heart Eyes – February 7
The filmmakers behind Freaky, Happy Death Day and Werewolves Within join forces for a new slasher, this one taking aim at romance on Valentine’s Day. Josh Ruben (Werewolves Within, Scare Me) is directing the Valentine’s Day-themed horror movie, with Mason Gooding (Scream) and Olivia Holt (“Cruel Summer”) starring.
The Dead Thing – February 14
Elric Kane’s solo feature debut follows “a young woman lost in a series of meaningless connections, who falls in love with a charismatic and sensitive man, who hides a dark secret that turns her affair into a dangerous obsession.”
The Gorge – February 14
Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy play elite snipers who fall in love during their top-secret mission guarding The Gorge, but there’s a strange threat below that will test their love and all of humanity. The latest from Scott Derrickson heads to Apple TV+ this Valentine’s Day.
The Monkey – February 21
Fresh off this year’s box office hit Longlegs, director Osgood Perkins is headed into the world of Stephen King with The Monkey, and it looks like a bloody delight. The trailer all but promises a very darkly funny and gory horror movie ahead.
In the Lost Lands – February 28
The next movie from Paul W.S. Anderson (Mortal Kombat, Event Horizon, Resident Evil, Monster Hunter) adapts “Game of Thrones” creator George R.R. Martin’s short story. Mila Jovovich stars as a feared sorceress sent to retrieve a magical power for her queen, with Dave Bautista as her guide.
Death of a Unicorn – Spring 2025
In A24’s dark comedy, “A father (Rudd) and daughter (Ortega) accidentally hit and kill a unicorn while en route to a weekend retreat, where his billionaire boss (Richard Grant) seeks to exploit the creature’s miraculous curative properties.” Horror master John Carpenter composes the score for this wacky genre-bender.
The Shrouds – Spring 2025
Cronenberg’s latest follows a grieving man as he invents technology that enables the living to monitor their dear departed in their shrouds. While the king of body horror explores death and burials in The Shrouds, expect this genre-bender to favor dark comedy.
Opus – March 14
Ayo Edebiri stars as a young writer in this A24 horror movie who is invited to the remote compound of a legendary pop star who mysteriously disappeared 30 years ago. Surrounded by the star’s cult of sycophants and intoxicated journalists, she finds herself in the middle of his twisted plan. The “flashy pop horror” movie also stars John Malkovich and Amber Midthunder.
Ash – March 21
A new sci-fi horror film from Grammy Award Winner and filmmaker Flying Lotus (Kuso, V/H/S/99). “On the mysterious planet of Ash, Riya (Eiza González) awakens to find her crew slaughtered. When Brion (Aaron Paul) arrives to rescue her, an ordeal of psychological and physical terror ensues while Riya and Brion must decide if they can trust one another to survive.”
The Woman in the Yard – March 28
Up next from director Jaume Collet-Serra (House of Wax, Orphan, The Shallows) is the Universal & Blumhouse thriller. No plot details have been revealed at this time, but it’ll star Danielle Deadwyler.
Drop – April 11
Christopher Landon’s love letter to Brian DePalma stars Emmy nominee Meghann Fahy as Violet, “a widowed mother on her first date in years, who arrives at an upscale restaurant where she is relieved that her date, Henry (It Ends with Us’ Brandon Sklenar) is more charming and handsome than she expected. But their chemistry begins to curdle as Violet begins being irritated and then terrorized by a series of anonymous drops to her phone.”
The Ritual – April 18
Al Pacino (The Devil’s Advocate) and Dan Stevens (Cuckoo, Abigail) star in the film that “follows two priests — one questioning his faith (Stevens) and one reckoning with a troubled past (Pacino) — who must put aside their differences to save a possessed young woman through a difficult and dangerous series of exorcisms.”
Sinners – April 18
Michael B. Jordan stars in dual roles in Ryan Coogler’s upcoming movie that was filmed for IMAX. As for plot, “Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers (both played by Michael B. Jordan) return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back.”
Until Dawn – April 25
Director David F. Sandberg (Lights Out, Annabelle Creation, Shazam) helms an adaptation of the popular horror game that sees a group of friends attacked by a masked maniac during a weekend getaway in the mountains. Peter Stormare (Clown, John Wick 2) will reprise his role from the Until Dawn video game.
Clown in a Cornfield – May 9
Get ready to meet Friendo. Author Adam Cesare gave rise to a new slasher villain in the horror novel Clown in a Cornfield, and the horror movie adaptation is on the way. A fresh start in the quaint town of Kettle Springs turns into a harrowing bid for survival when tensions between generations boil over, and a killer clown arrives to cull the playing field.
Final Destination: Bloodlines – May 16
Death is back with inventive, elaborate kills for those who managed to escape his grasp the first time in the sixth entry of this popular horror franchise. Late horror legend Tony Todd is also expected to return as William Bludworth, a mysterious character who has a history of making appearances in the Final Destination movies.
Hurry Up Tomorrow – May 16
Grammy-winning and Oscar and Emmy-nominated artist The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye) is set to expand his musical universe with a feature-starring role in this psychological thriller. Plot details are scarce, but it concludes The Weeknd’s artistic trilogy, completing the journey that began with After Hours and Dawn FM. It Comes at Night director Trey Edward Shults directs; Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan also star.
28 Years Later – June 20
Director Danny Boyle reteams with writer Alex Garland (28 Days Later, Ex Machina, Annihilation) on 28 Years Later, the first installment of a brand new trilogy that’ll continue in 2026 with Nia DaCosta’s 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. The fantastic trailer solidified that this sequel is all but destined to become a huge summer hit.
M3GAN 2.0 – June 27
Allison Williams and Violet McGraw are back alongside everyone’s favorite killer dancing queen for M3GAN 2.0, with Akela Cooper (Malignant, M3GAN) once again writing the script and Gerard Johnstone directing.
Jurassic World Rebirth – July 2
Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, The Creator) takes the reins on this franchise installment that seeks to course correct to the suspenseful tone of Steven Spielberg’s original film. Scarlett Johansson stars.
I Know What You Did Last Summer – July 18
Plot details haven’t been revealed as of yet, but the original film follows four young friends who are separated by a tragic accident but reunited when they find themselves being stalked by a hook-wielding maniac in their small seaside town. Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt are set to return in this sequel.
Beneath the Storm – August 1
Norwegian filmmaker Tommy Wirkola (Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, Dead Snow, Violent Night) is headed into the open waters for a shark attack horror movie that stars Phoebe Dynevor (Fair Play), Whitney Peak (Hocus Pocus 2) and Djimon Hounsou (A Quiet Place: Part II).
Insidious 6 – August 29
Not to be confused with the previously announced and undated spinoff Thread: An Insidious Tale, a new installment of the popular supernatural franchise is set to arrive this summer. Plot details remain under wraps at this time.
The Conjuring: Last Rites – September 5
Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga will make their final bow as Ed and Lorraine Warren in the final installment of the main series. Michael Chaves (The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, The Nun II) directs from a script by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick (The Conjuring 2).
Him – September 19
Previously titled Goat, Justin Tipping’s sports-themed psychological horror movie centers on a “promising young athlete who is invited to train with a team’s retiring star.” It’s described as “a blood-chilling journey into the inner sanctum of fame, power, and the pursuit of excellence at any cost.”
The Bride! – September 26
Director Maggie Gyllenhaal is bringing the iconic Bride of Frankenstein back to life, with Jessie Buckley as the titular Bride. Christian Bale stars as ‘”a lonely Frankenstein travel to 1930s Chicago to seek the aide of a Dr. Euphronius in creating a companion for himself. The two reinvigorate a murdered young woman and the Bride is born. She is beyond what either of them intended, igniting a combustible romance, the attention of the police and a wild and radical social movement.”
Saw XI – September 26
Take this entry with a grain of salt. Lionsgate announced this sequel’s release date in April 2024, with Saw X director Kevin Greutert returning to direct. Still, with no new updates since, including production, it seems likely to expect another shift or delay. Still, we’re keeping our fingers crossed for more lethal traps to haunt our Halloween season.
Hell House LLC: Lineage – October 2025
The popular Halloween found footage series is back with what could be the final entry. The installment will continue a deeper dive into the back stories of various characters within the franchise, while introducing new characters and storylines, and you can watch the first teaser now.
The Black Phone 2 – October 17
Ethan Hawke will be back as The Grabber in Scott Derrickson’s sequel, alongside Mason Thames (How to Train Your Dragon, Incoming), Madeleine McGraw (Toy Story 4, Secrets of Sulphur Springs), Jeremy Davies (Justified). While no plot details have been revealed yet, it feels safe to assume that the Grabber will want revenge from beyond the grave.
Bugonia – November 7
Up next from Yorgos Lanthimos (Poor Things) is Bugonia, an English-language remake of 2003’s Korean genre-bender Save the Green Planet!, with Ari Aster producing. Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons star in the film that follows a man who kidnaps his boss, believing that an alien invasion is imminent.
Predator: Badlands – November 7
The Predator franchise will return to the big screen in November 2025 with Prey director Dan Trachtenberg’s new entry. Elle Fanning stars, but she’s not the hero in this story: the Predator is. That’s right, this is the first franchise installment that makes our favorite alien hunter the story’s hero.
The Running Man – November 7
Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Last Night in Soho) is directing a new take on Stephen King’s The Running Man, with Glen Powell set to star. The plot sees a falsely convicted policeman forced to participate in a TV game show where convicts must battle killers for their freedom.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 – December 5
Jim Henson’s Creature Shop is back for this sequel to ensure the standout animatronics once again take the spotlight. The adaptation of the Five Nights at Freddy’s horror video game series followed a security guard dealing with dangerous animatonic characters haunting Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza.
Anaconda – December 25
The Anaconda franchise is slithering its way back to theaters with a brand new reboot movie from Sony, and signs are pointing to a much more comedic take on the material. “The new story involves a group of friends facing mid-life crises who are remaking their favorite movie from their youth. They head to the rainforest only to find themselves into a fight for their lives against natural disasters, giant snakes and violent criminals.” Paul Rudd and Jack Black star.
The Housemaid – December 25
Paul Feig’s suspense thriller The Housemaid, which adapts Freida McFadden’s best-selling novel, Sydney Sweeney plays a woman embarking on a fresh start as a housemaid. But her new employers, played by Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar, harbor secrets that are far more dangerous than her own.
Silent Night, Deadly Night – Late 2025
Santa will slay again. Bloody Disgusting will be producing the upcoming reboot of the franchise that will be written and directed by Mike P. Nelson (Wrong Turn, V/H/S/85) and produced by Scott J. Schneid and Dennis Whitehead, executive producers of the original 1984 Tri-Star film. This reboot is currently slated for a late 2025 theatrical release.
Bring Her Back – TBD
A24 and Talk to Me filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippou are re-teaming on the original horror movie Bring Her Back, starring The Shape of Water lead Sally Hawkins. Plot details are scarce, but production took place last summer, which means a 2025 release is likely.
Die, My Love – TBD
Up next from director Lynne Ramsay (We Need to Talk About Kevin, You Were Never Really Here) is the psychological thriller Die, My Love, starring Jennifer Lawrence. The adaptation of the 2017 novel by Ariana Harwicz follows a mother battling with psychosis.
Fear Street: Prom Queen – TBD
Netflix previously announced that it’ll welcome viewers back to Shadyside in 2025 for the next blood-soaked installment, with Matt Palmer (Calibre) directing. This adaptation of R.L. Stine’s novel rewinds the clock to 1988, centered around the Senior Prom.
Fréwaka – TBD
Up next from Aislinn Clarke (The Devil’s Doorway) is an Irish-language horror movie that “follows home care worker Shoo, who is sent to a remote village to care for an agoraphobic woman who fears the neighbors as much as she fears the Na Sídhe — sinister entities who she believes abducted her decades before.”
Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein – TBD
Guillermo del Toro is adapting Mary Shelley’s classic novel Frankenstein for Netflix, but the filmmaker has promised to expect a theatrical run as well. Jacob Elordi will be playing Frankenstein’s monster alongside a cast that includes Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz, and Oscar Isaac.
Primitive War – TBD
Writer/Director Luke Sparke is adapting author Ethan Pettus’ sci-fi military novel Primitive War, testing a military unit’s survival skills against an unlikely enemy: dinosaurs. Set during the Vietnam War, a search and rescue squad instead find themselves dealing with a prehistoric threat.
Shelby Oaks – TBD
NEON acquired worldwide rights to the found footage horror movie Shelby Oaks, the feature film debut of writer/director Chris Stuckmann. Camille Sullivan (Hunter Hunter) stars in the film about an investigation into missing paranormal investigators.
Tinsman Road – TBD
The Outwaters filmmaker Robbie Banfitch is back with another found footage horror movie, but expect a more somber and atmospheric vision this time. The plot centers on a brother seeking his missing sister, and Banfitch promises a vastly different type of horror.
The Ugly Stepsister – TBD
The feature debut from Norwegian writer and director Emilie Blichfeldt will give a body horror twist to the classic fairy tale legend of Cinderella. Except this one to test the conventions of beauty.
Untitled Predator Movie – TBD
While it’s already confirmed that Predator: Badlands will arrive in November, 20th Century Studios boss Steve Asbell recently spilled the beans that a second Predator movie will arrive in 2025. Asbell was tight-lipped on details, except that we can expect this one to be released on streaming. That’s right; we’re getting two Predator movies this year.
V/H/S/8 – TBD
Arriving hot on the heels of V/H/S/Beyond, the eighth entry will feature ‘six new bloodcurdling tapes, placing horror at the forefront of a sci-fi-inspired hellscape.” While Shudder hasn’t announced a release date yet, the previously entries have arrived right around Halloween.
Vicious – TBD
Dakota Fanning stars as “a young woman who must spend the night fighting for her existence as she slips down a disturbing rabbit hold contained inside a mysterious gift from a late-night visitor.” Considering Vicious is the latest by The Strangers and The Dark and the Wicked filmmaker Bryan Bertino, this highly anticipated release was initially slated for a February release but is currently seeking a new release date.
Visitation – TBD
The latest from Nicolas Pesce (The Gruge, Piercing) centers on “a 14-year-old girl named Maria who, with her mother sick and dying, is sent away to live under the careful watch of Catholic nuns. But Maria’s arrival slowly turns sinister as one of her caretakers becomes enamored with her for all the wrong reasons.” Olivia Cooke stars. This horror thriller went into production in 2023, which means a release date announcement is inevitable.
