Since news dropped that Julia Ducournau’s third feature, the genre-bending Alpha, has been picked up by NEON for distribution, fans of the new French body horror master have been clamoring to know more about her follow up to Raw and Titane. While news is yet to be officially confirmed, Film Updates has shared some alleged plot details that could suggest Durcournau is remaking her short film Junior into a feature.
Starring frequent Ducournau collaborator Garance Marillier, Junior was released in 2011 and won the Petit Rail d’Or at Cannes, ten years before Titane would go on to win the Palme d’Or at the prestigious film festival.
In Junior:
Justine, who goes by Junior, is a 13-year-old tomboy with pimples and a unique sense of humor. After unexpectedly contracting a stomach virus, her body becomes home to a bizarre metamorphosis.
According to Film Updates, Alpha is reportedly set in the northern French port city of Le Havre in the 1980s and revolves around a girl who is ostracized by her classmates following rumors that she has contracted a strange new illness.
If these plot details are correct, there certainly seems to be similarities between Junior and Alpha. Whether or not Marillier will return for her fourth outing with Ducournau remains to be seen.
We’ll bring you more updates on Alpha as they roll in.
