Osgood Perkins and NEON blessed horror fans with a special Christmas treat yesterday, sharing a brand new clip from The Monkey, the upcoming “hyper dark” horror-comedy hitting theaters on February 21, 2025.
Produced by James Wan and based on a Stephen King short story of the same name, The Monkey stars Theo James (The White Lotus), Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black), Elijah Wood (Maniac, The Lord Of The Rings, Bookworm), Christian Convery (Sweet Tooth), Colin O’Brien (Wonka), Rohan Campbell (Halloween Ends) and Sarah Levy (Schitt’s Creek).
In The Monkey, when twin brothers Hal and Bill discover their father’s old monkey toy in the attic, a series of gruesome deaths starts occurring all around them. The brothers decide to throw the monkey away and move on with their lives, growing apart over the years. But when the mysterious deaths begin again, the brothers must reunite to find a way to destroy the monkey for good before it takes the lives of everyone close to them.
The follow up to this year’s horror smash hit Longlegs, The Monkey is described by Perkins as being more comedic in tone and totally different from the Nic Cage-starring serial killer thriller.
Yesterday’s brand new clip certainly seems to confirm that; titled “Aunt Ida (July 14, 1963 – October 3, 2024) Beloved Sister, Accidental Stepmother, Avid Swinger”, the sneak peek shows the titular Aunt Ida (Sarah Levy) meet a darkly hilarious, Final Destination-style death (one of many “insane kills” teased by Perkins) complete with fishing hooks and lashings of fire.
