We have to admit, Al Pacino and Dan Stevens starring together in an exorcism movie wasn’t anything we ever really would’ve guessed was happening, but happening it is, with today bringing the first poster for The Ritual ahead of its April 18, 2025 release date via XYZ Films.
From director David Midell, the film’s logline reads as follows:
“The Ritual follows two priests — one questioning his faith (Stevens) and one reckoning with a troubled past (Pacino) — who must put aside their differences to save a possessed young woman through a difficult and dangerous series of exorcisms. The film is an authentic portrayal of Emma Schmidt, an American woman whose demonic possession culminated in harrowing exorcisms. Her case remains the most thoroughly documented exorcism in American history.”
The film is also set to star Twilight alum Ashley Greene and Ashley Cowan, and is directed by David Midell, who also wrote the script alongside Enrico Natale. Natale serves as a producer alongside Andrew Stevens and Mitchell Welch.
The Ritual is set to put Stevens 2025 on a similarly horror-tinged path as his 2024, where he starred in Radio Silence’s Abigail and Tilman Singer’s Cuckoo opposite Hunter Schafer. Stevens is also set to reunite with Adam Wingard in A24’s gonzo action horror Onslaught, as well as starring and executive producing in AMC’s The Terror: Devil in Silver.
As for Pacino, well, he’s Al Pacino. Hopefully you don’t need a rundown of his credits.
The Ritual hits theaters on April 18, 2025. Check out the new poster below and hopefully a first trailer soon.
