The Keep, the 1983 supernatural war-horror feature from legendary filmmaker Michael Mann (Heat, Manhunter, Miami Vice), is finally coming to 4K UHD and Blu-ray thanks to Vinegar Syndrome.
Vinegar Syndrome’s release is newly restored from its original camera negative and comes stacked with a bunch of special features, with a special Limited Edition release that comes with a spot gloss hard slipcase + slipcover combo (designed by Edward Kinsella), includes a 40-page perfect bound book and is limited to 12,000 units.
Starring Scott Glenn, Gabriel Byrne, Jürgen Prochnow, Alberta Watson, and Ian McKellen, The Keep is based on a 1981 novel of the same title by American writer F. Paul Wilson, and follows:
Nazi-occupied Romania, 1941: In a small and gloomy village hidden deep in the mountains, German troops have arrived to lay siege. Although warned by the townspeople to stay out of a mysterious and ornately carved structure known only as “The Keep,” two arrogant soldiers ignore their orders and break into the obelisk, hoping to find stowed treasure, but instead unleash an ancient evil force which, with each new victim, grows stronger and more powerful.
After suffering large casualties at its hands, Captain Klaus Woermann is informed that the only person who might be capable of defeating this monstrous and demonic entity is an elderly Jewish historian named Dr. Theodore Cuza, who is being held captive with his daughter in a concentration camp…
Widely panned upon release and famously once disowned by Mann, The Keep has gone on to become a cult classic in its own right, and has long had fans clamoring to own it on physical media.
