It may not come as a huge surprise to anyone, but it’s still good news for those who like their movies on the darker side: Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu is officially an R-Rated horror picture.
The MPA have slapped the vampire horror with the rating for “bloody violent content, graphic nudity and some sexual content.”
First reactions for Nosferatu have teased the earned rating, with terms like “psychosexual nightmare” and “horny fever dream” being thrown about much to the delight of sickos (complimentary!)
Releasing in theaters on Christmas Day via Focus Features, Nosferatu stars Bill Skarsgård, Lily-Rose Depp, Nicholas Hoult, Willem Dafoe, Emma Corrin and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Eggers’ take on the F.W. Murnau expressionist classic follows a young woman (Depp) who becomes the object of desire for the terrifying vampire Count Orlok (Skarsgård).
Focus Features have wisely kept Skarsgård’s full vampiric glory under wraps throughout all the marketing, but what we do know so far is that the Swedish star went through an “unrecognizable” transformation to become the titular bloodsucker.
Just when we thought we couldn’t get more excited for Nosferatu, eh? Catch it in theaters on December 25 (or January 1, if you’re in the UK!)
