Great news for fans of killing evil dinosaurs in video games. As of this writing, Turok 2: Seeds of Evil has been added to the Nintendo Switch Online library as part of the Nintendo 64 collection. That means anyone with a subscription who also pays for the Expansion Pack option can now play the game at no extra charge. No BS, just fire up the Switch and start saving the world, one dead dinosaur at a time. With the lack of Dino Crisis and other such dino-focused games right now, this is a welcome treat.

For those who are unfamiliar, Nintendo Switch Online is a lot like Xbox Live. It’s the service that allows access to much of what the Switch has to offer online, including quite a few free games. A couple of years ago, Nintendo beefed up the offering by bringing N64 games and other perks to the service, but that does require the Expansion Pack upgrade. Still, for $50 per year it offers a lot of free games, with the library always expanding.

As for Turok 2, if you’re reading this, the game surely needs no introduction. Released in 1999, it was the sequel to the highly successful Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, which was released in 1997. While both games are beloved classics of the era, the general consensus is that the sequel is the better game. It was also given a remaster several years back, making the experience even better in the modern era. As an added bonus for Switch Online subscribers, both games are available via the Expansion Pack right now, so you can play them back to back, if you please. In Turok 2: Seeds of Evil

“Having defeated the Campaigner, Turok throws the Chronocepter into a waiting volcano to destroy it. Unfortunately the blast awakens an even deadlier force – The Primagen. Once again a Turok is tasked with restoring peace to the land and stopping the Primagen from merging Earth with the nether world.

The Dinosaur Hunter Returns.

Fight your way through 35 different types of enemies with bouncing bellies, blinking eyes, stretching tentacles and snapping jaws. From Prehistoric Raptors, to evolved Flesh Eaters, to your final battle with the Mother of all beasts— you’ll want to defeat all of them! Enemies are intelligent! They’re smart enough to attack in groups, to flee when they are outgunned, and to take cover during a firefight. Enemies flinch and spasm differently depending on which body part you hit.”

For whatever reason, mainstream dinosaur video games just aren’t what they used to be. Fortunately, that does seem to be changing. We’ve got Jurassic Park: Survival on the way, for one. There are also an increasing number of indie games tackling the much-ignored genre right now as well. But the era of AAA console dinosaur games is, for whatever reason, a little light these days. So, it’s back to the classics.
