Fresh off the release of V/H/S/BEYOND earlier this month, Shudder have announced at last night’s New York Comic Con panel that the found-footage franchise is set to continue with V/H/S/8.
The eighth entry into the franchise (which is, presumably what the 8 in the title refers to rather than the year-named entries like 94 and 99. Unless we’re getting some good caveman found footage?) is set to hit Shudder in 2025, with no specific release date revealed yet.
Since 2012’s V/H/S, the anthology series has given a number of horror filmmakers (including David Bruckner, Chloe Okuno, Timo Tjahjanto, Flying Lotus, Scott Derrickson, Gigi Saul Guerrero and many more) the spotlight for a hugely diverse variety of shorts. Slashers, aliens, zombies, bizarre drain-dwelling rat people… the V/H/S franchise has seen it all.
V/H/S/BEYOND, which premiered at Fantastic Fest in September, featured sci-fi themed shorts from Jordan Downey, Christian and Justin Long, Justin Martinez, Virat Pal, Jay Cheel and Kate Siegel in her directorial debut.
Current entries into the franchise, which was created by Bloody Disgusting and Brad Miska, include the aforementioned V/H/S, V/H/S/2, V/H/S/3, V/H/S/Viral, V/H/S/94, V/H/S/99, the FANGORIA Chainsaw Award-winning V/H/S/85 and, of course, V/H/S/BEYOND.
No further news on V/H/S/8 was revealed at the NYCC panel, so it’s time to start speculating on what filmmakers will be invited to participate into the next series entry of terrifying shorts – or who will be invited back for another go round.
We’ll bring you all the updates as they roll in.
