The SILENT HILL 2 Remake Is Already A Massive Hit

Even though the game has only been out for less than two weeks, it’s already fair to declare the Silent Hill 2 remake a huge success for both Konami and developer Bloober Team. The remake of the PlayStation era classic hit shelves on October 8 and has already shipped more than one million copies. What’s more, according to Konami, they hit that figure just three days after release.

The game’s official social media accounts recently revealed that the total number of copies of Silent Hill 2 shipped globally exceeded one million copies by October 11. As of this writing, that was nearly a week ago. So it seems pretty fair to say this has more than met the lofty expectations placed upon it commercially speaking. From a player standpoint, the response has been overwhelmingly positive. For those who might still be on the fence, you can check out the first 90 minutes of gameplay right here. For what it’s worth, it holds a 9.4 user rating on Metacrtic, which meets the threshold for “universal acclaim.”

SILENT HILL 2 - Bloober Team

Serving as a sequel to 1999’s hit Silent Hill, the original incarnation of the game first arrived in 2001 and has long been held up as the best of the series. That being the case, there were fans who were a little precious (understandably so) about the prospect of redoing this true horror classic. Fortunately, it all worked out. In the game…

“Investigating a letter from his late wife, James returns to where they made so many memories – Silent Hill. What he finds is a ghost town, prowled by disturbing monsters and cloaked in deep fog. Confront the monsters, solve puzzles, and search for traces of your wife.”

In all likelihood, this will lead to further remakes from the long-running series. Capcom has had a great deal of luck with the Resident Evil remakes in recent years, with the likes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 selling millions of copies each. More are on the way in that case, with Resident Evil 9 also in the works. The point is, success will be chased, generally speaking. There are a handful more games in the series so that is very much a possibility, should everyone involved wish to wander down that path. For now, everyone gets to enjoy how will this first experiment went.

Silent Hill 2 is available now for console and PC. For more, check out the best new games we played at this year’s Fantastic Fest
