If you ever needed a reason to listen to your mother when she says not to talk to strangers, A24 has the perfect example for you. The studio’s just released their latest trailer for Heretic, the holy horror film starring Hugh Grant, Chloe East, and Yellowjackets’ Sophie Thatcher, and it looks just as unforgiving as ever.

The new trailer gives us a better idea of the cat and mouse game Grant is playing with Thatcher and East’s young missionaries, who come to preach the world of the Mormon church, only to be locked inside Mr. Reed’s home and forced to find their own way out, based on their faith. Based on the new footage, it seems far more like a psychological trap than something out of Saw — which is the vibe that the first trailer seemed to give off. No, the lonely psychopath is more interested in studying the girls and their response to what they think is belief in their God, pushing them to the very edge of their endurance and sanity.

The film is co-directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, better known as the minds behind the scripts for both A Quiet Place and The Boogeyman — which they also executive produced —  the latter of which also starred Thatcher. They also wrote and directed the 2019 horror film Haunt, as well as last year’s dino-thriller 65, starring Adam Driver.

“When you sit in a room and try to think of scary ideas for a movie, for us there’s nothing more terrifying than death,” says Woods. “All horror movies in one way or another are about death — it’s the thing we fear most in life, and we use religion to try and make sense of what happens when we die so we can feel safe. But when we delve too deep into the subject, sometimes we’re left feeling less safe.”

This is just one of Thatcher’s upcoming horror projects as well. In addition to a new season of Yellowjackets hitting our screens soon, the actress is also set to appear in Companion, a new film produced by Barbarian’s Zach Cregger featuring a less-than-stellar love story

Heretic arrives in theaters on November 8. Check out the new trailer below:
