It looks like we have a full-blown modern slasher icon with a franchise that just won’t quit. Terrifier 3 hasn’t even hit theaters yet, but the film did premiere at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas last night. This marks Art the Clown’s third solo cinematic parade of carnage. Well, it looks like director Damien Leone intends to keep the blood coming as the filmmaker has confirmed that a fourth entry in the franchise is indeed happening. Buckle up, gorehounds.

“Yes there will be a Terrifier 4,” Leone said during the Q&A, which was attended by Fango’s own Angel Melanson. So there we have it! Nothing further was confirmed at this time, though that seems fair given that most of the world has yet to even see the third installment. Without giving too much away, the film does very much pave the way for another sequel. Speaking of the forthcoming threequel, Art the Clown is on the cover of FANGORIA #25 in honor of the release of Terrifier 3. If things keep going the way they’re going, this may not be the last time we see Art around these parts either.

This franchise has had a pretty fascinating journey. Art the Clown first appeared in a short before anchoring the All Hallows Eve anthology film. After that, the first Terrifier arrived in 2016 and, given its small budget, it was a modest success that gained a cult following. Leone finally returned in 2022 with Terrifier 2, which became a straight-up sensation. It pulled in $15 million at the box office against a mere $250,000 budget. That cemented Art as a modern horror icon and paved the way for Terrifier 3 to happen far more quickly. In an effort to keep things fresh, this installment is set during Christmas.

David Howard Thornton returns as Art the Clown in the upcoming sequel. The cast also includes several other familiar faces such as Lauren LaVera (Sienna), Samantha Scaffidi (Victoria Heyes), Elliot Fullam (Jonathan Shaw) and Chris Jericho (Burke). Joining the franchise this time around are visual effects legend Tom Savini, Jason Patric (The Lost Boys), Antonella Rose (Fear the Walking Dead), Krsy Fox (Allegoria), Clint Howard (Ice Cream Man), Jon Abrahams (House of Wax) and Daniel Roebuck (Final Destination) as Santa Claus. The synopsis for the film reads as follows:

“Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton) is set to unleash another round of chaos on the unsuspecting residents of Miles County as they peacefully drift off to sleep on Christmas Eve.”

Terrifier 3 hits theaters on October 11. For more, check out Fango’s list of films we’re excited to see at this year’s Fantastic Fest
