Writer/Director/Editor Michael Felker’s feature directorial debut, Things Will Be Different, sees a pair of siblings on the lam get caught up in a twisty sci-fi puzzle box thriller. Today brings the first trailer and a poster the highlights the genre-bending mysteries ahead.

Magnet Releasing has set a theatrical day-and-date release for Things Will Be Different on October 4, 2024.

The film follows “estranged siblings who, after a robbery, escape to a rural safe house hidden in time and discover they’re not the only occupants.”

“I made Things Will Be Different for people who love thrillers, noir, and science fiction they can think about. It’s a giant mystery box of a movie with a strong familial core that’s inspired by my own family. Adam David Thompson and Riley Dandy are just incredible as Joe and Sid, and I can’t believe they aren’t actually brother and sister. I hope people either ponder their own theories and talk about them after watching, or just sit back and enjoy an emotionally wild and unpredictable ride. Either way you can’t go wrong,” Felker said in a statement.

Adam David Thompson and Riley Dandy star in Things Will Be Different. They play siblings Joseph and Sidney, who are on the run from the law at the start of the filmChloe Skoczen, Justin Benson, Jori Lynn Felker, and Sarah Bolger also star.

Writer/Director/Editor Michael Felker knows his way around time-shifting, metaphysical labors of love, having edited Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead’s Something in the DirtSynchronicThe Endless, and Spring. Felker’s debut seamlessly fits into the Benson/Moorhead cinematic universe, introducing a fractured sibling relationship put through the physical and emotional wringer when they play with forces they don’t quite understand.

I wrote in my SXSW review that the film “is an accomplished, affecting feature directorial debut that smartly uses its time concept to give a pair of morally skewed siblings a chance to rewrite the past for the sake of a better future. It’s in the space in between where Felker effectively tests familial bonds to their limit through genre conventions.”
