A live action Masters of the Universe movie is in the works at Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films, and THR reports tonight that Alison Brie (The Rental) has signed on to star.
Alison Brie will be playing the iconic Masters villain Evil-Lyn alongside Nicholas Galitzine’s (The Idea of You) He-Man and Camila Mendes’s (“Riverdale”) Teela.
THR reminds, “Evil-Lyn is Skeletor’s second-in-command and uses a wand with a crystal orb to practice the dark arts. Meg Foster portrayed the character in the 1987 live-action movie.”
Masters of the Universe has now been set for theatrical release on June 5, 2026, with Travis Knight (Bumblebee) on board to direct He-Man’s return to the big screen.
Adam and Aaron Nee (The Lost City) wrote the original version of the script with David Callaham (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), which Chris Butler will rewrite.
Deadline had reported, “The movie follows ten-year-old Prince Adam who crashed to Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his magical Power Sword—the only link to his home on Eternia. After tracking it down almost two decades later, Prince Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor.
“But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam will first need to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man: the most powerful man in the Universe.”
The movie will be based on the beloved Mattel toyline, which spawned a successful animated TV series (1983-85) as well as the 1987 live-action film starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man. The property centers on the warrior He-Man, the last hope of a magical land called Eternia.
The new movie comes from Amazon MGM Studios, Mattel, and Escape Artist.
