HBO’s long-awaited It prequel series Welcome to Derry gets an intense new teaser, although we still have a while to wait before its sometime-in-2o25 release date.

Welcome to Derry sees Bill Skarsgård (The Crow, Nosferatu) reprise his role as the terrifying Pennywise the clown from Andy Muschietti’s 2017 Stephen King adaptations It and its sequel It Chapter Two. Along with starring, Skarsgård is also set to executive produce the series.

The teaser, shared yesterday by HBO and Max’s on Twitter/X, gives us a look at the world of Welcome to Derry, which:

“… will begin in the 1960s in the time leading up to the events of It: Part One, the 2017 film based on the Stephen King horror novel. The story is also said to include the origin story of Pennywise the Clown.”

Starring alongside Skarsgård are Taylour Paige (Zola), Jovan Adepo (Overlord), Chris Chalk (Perry Mason), James Remar (Dexter) and Stephen Rider (Daredevil).

Also announced to be joining the cast recently were Alixandra Fuchs (The Chi), Kimberly Guerrero (Outer Range), Dorian Grey (Star Trek: Discovery), Thomas Mitchell (Spiral), BJ Harrison (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Peter Outerbridge (Saw VI), Shane Marriott (Firestarter), Chad Rook (Extremity), Joshua Odjick (The Swarm), and Morningstar Angeline (Westworld).

Muschietti is also set to  set to direct four episodes of the nine episodes, and will also executive produce alongside Barbara Muschietti through their Double Dream production company, as well as Jason Fuchs, Brad Caleb Kane, David Coatsworth, Shelley Meals, Roy Lee and Dan Lin.

As previously speculated by Fango’s sorely missed Stephen King expert Scott Wampler, Welcome to Derry‘s timeline could mean we end up learning the history of The Black Spot, or seeing more of Pennywise’s earliest time on Earth, while also telling a new tale set in the ’60s.

Check out the new teaser below and we’ll bring you all the Welcome to Derry updates as they roll in.
