Barbarian remains one of the biggest horror surprises of the past few years and now, those who enjoyed Zach Cregger’s bonkers descent into the basement from hell can bring the soundtrack home. The folks at Waxwork Records have revealed an impressive new release that will capture Anna Drubich’s sweet, haunting, milky soundtrack on 180 gram vinyl. The artwork alone makes this worth some shelf space.
The Barbarian original motion picture soundtrack comes with brand new artwork by Steven Reeves, which you can check out below. It also comes with an 11×11 art insert, with the record itself pressed on “Mother’s Milk & Blood” splatter colored vinyl. Talk about nailing the assignment. The soundtrack retails for $32 and is available for pre-order now. It is expected to ship in September.
Cregger’s Barbarian was a big hit in 2022, taking in $45 million at the box office against a mere $4.5 million budget. It was also met with widespread praise from critics, with rocketed Cregger up the list of in-demand genre directors working in Hollywood right now. Diversion3 Entertainment is even working on a Barbarian video game. If that doesn’t scream success in the modern era, what does?
For as weird and wonderful as this vinyl is, it serves as a painful reminder that Barbarian is still not available on Blu-ray and/or 4K Ultra HD. Not even DVD! Indeed, we live in a world where the soundtrack for Cregger’s acclaimed hit is getting a very impressive release, yet the film itself is left to languish on streaming. One can only hope that Disney amends this at some point. The synopsis for the film reads as follows:
“Traveling to Detroit for a job interview, a young woman (Georgina Campbell) books a rental home. But when she arrives late at night, she discovers that the house is double-booked, and a strange man (Bill Skarsgård) is already staying there. Against her better judgment, she decides to spend the evening. Before long, mysterious sounds draw her to other parts of the house where terrifying discoveries prove there’s a lot more for her to fear than just an unexpected house guest.”
Meanwhile, Cregger is staying very busy. After signing a deal at Warner Bros., Cregger set about crafting his follow-up feature Weapons. He’s assembled one heck of a cast for that one, with filming expected to begin very soon. The filmmaker is also producing various projects for the studio, including the upcoming sci-fi flick Companion starring Jack Quaid (The Boys).
