We aren’t allowed to show you the titular Vourdalak in action just yet, but the good news is, if you’re in New York, you can go to the theater and see the monster for yourself! We do however have a sneak peek at an exclusive clip from The Vourdalak for your viewing pleasure.
But first, a quick synopsis:
When the Marquis d’Urfé, a noble emissary of the King of France, is attacked and abandoned in the remote countryside, he finds refuge at an eerie, isolated manor. The resident family, reluctant to take him in, exhibits strange behavior as they await the imminent return of their father, Gorcha.
But what begins simply as strange quickly devolves into a full fledged nightmare when Gorcha returns, seemingly no longer himself…
Writer/director Adrien Beau has taken Tolstoy’s original story and reimagined it. The film opens June 28th at New York City’s IFC Center with Beau in attendance throughout the weekend. Limited tickets for the screenings are still available HERE. The film will expand to additional cities beginning next week, so those of us outside New York only have to remain patient a little longer. As patient as Gorcha’s children eagerly awaiting his return.
In the meantime, let’s take a look at that exclusive clip to whet your whistles for more Vourdalak.
Ok, Jegor, we have a bad feeling about this. You may want to heed that advice and take caution. Also, this perfectly exemplifies that there is no such thing as being “overdressed” for a function. Go see The Vourdalak at New York City’s IFC Center this weekend and stay tuned for wider release info.
