The Coffee Table is one of those “I can’t explain it to you, you just have to watch it” deals. It’s covered in the latest issue of FANGORIA, (Issue #23) and just enjoyed a successful limited theatrical run after blowing minds on the festival circuit.
“We wanted to make one of the cruelest films ever made, one that people cannot forget”, said Casas. “It will make them feel very strong emotions, real terror without monsters, zombies, ghosts or murderers, only with a dining room table and the cruelest fate that you can imagine.”
“I can only assure one thing to audiences, if you like strong emotions, if you want to suffer like never before, if you want to feel real terror, The Coffee Table is your movie”, said Casas. “You will never forget it, I promise.”

Here’s a full synopsis:
Unspeakable horror meets the blackest of black comedy in this tale of a married couple, their newborn and a tacky coffee table. Jesus and Maria, to celebrate their new baby, go furniture shopping. The hen-pecked Jesus, in a rebellion against his tough-as-nails wife, insists on buying a trashy fake gold embossed glass table held up but four breast-bearing female figures (think an Ikea table designed by Liberace.) Guaranteed to bring happiness to their family by the smarmy salesman, the couple buy the monstrosity.
Assembled in their home, the table instead, brings nothing by horror, their worst nightmare is about to happen. Director Caye Cases (“Killing God”) pushes the limits of unbearableness and all without evil ghosts, monsters or possessions to do so, just a little insignificant coffee table. But mark our words, that damn table will drive you through a mental hell, stuck in a limbo between nervous laughter, disgust and an urge to cleanse your eyes of the images they’ve just been exposed to.
